There is a workaround (see below) but it involves more equipment and is not understood by DTV tech support. Because of this June software change that requires a MoCA test over coax to activate a client, non-coax installs will always fail.

But that's just wrong thinking, as many new installs should be done without coax, as it's not needed - the installs can and should happen using either ethernet cables or wireless connections. DTV says this was done to help their installers by debugging coax lines on a new install. If you don't have a coax connected client, the installation will fail after entering the PIN on the RVU connected TV with a blue screen titled "MoCA Test". Short answer: as of June's software update, you *MUST* have one coax connected client in order to add any new client.

In the end, I figured out how to solve this problem, and the solution is below, note that DTV tech support staff do not know this solution. I obtained an HR44 to replace it (long, difficult story) and ran into this problem (DTV's fault) that caused me to spend four hours of telephone time with some eight DTV support staff, all of whom had completely incorrect information. I had this problem today: I've had an HR34 connected to three Samsung TVs via RVU over Ethernet for almost two years.
